Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a charge for estimates / quotes?
No, quotes are free. However, we do charge for our landscape design service. A quote is something specific that you tell us you want, while a design is something we create. Examples of quotes: a retaining wall, a driveway, a patio, a maple tree, grading and seed / sod. Examples of design work: the client wants their front house foundation garden removed and replaced with a garden that has four season interest, or a client that wants a private cutting garden with a water feature with a sitting area. We will be happy to provide you with a quote for the design work!
Do quotes accurately reflect the final cost of the project?
Yes, assuming there are no changes to the scope of the work. For example, if we quote a 950 square foot brick paver patio will cost $4.75, then the patio will cost $4.75. However, if the client wishes to install a seat wall, the total price will increase.
Can we get it in writing?
Yes, Tree & Timber uses proposals, contracts and change orders for all of our projects to avoid confusion.
Do I have to put a deposit down?
Typically we ask for 25% down to schedule the work. This helps cover the initial ordering and receiving materials for pending work. We then usually ask for an additional 25% upon the commencement of work. The final 50% is due upon completion unless otherwise arranged in advance. There are a few very large projects which may be handled differently due to long time frames, for those jobs we generally set up progress payments when certain phases of work are completed.
When can we schedule an appointment?
We are happy to schedule appointments just about anytime that works best for you, however, Saturdays and evenings fill up fast, so try to schedule as early as possible.
Is Tree & Timber insured?
Yes, we are fully insured and would be happy to provide you with our coverage information.
How soon can we do the work? How long will the job take?
Probably our most frequently asked questions and often the hardest to answer with certainty. It depends. (has a contractor ever answered with anything else to these questions?) The first question has a lot to do with the time of year (spring and fall tend to get busy and the weather is less predictable). We can usually provide you with a realistic start and finish date when scheduling the work.
